What is BRAVA?

BRAVA is an intricate orthodontic system that is customized for your smile. It is engineered to move your teeth to their ideal position, efficiently and automatically, without the need for adjustments.

Why is treatment with BRAVA faster than braces or aligners?

The secret behind the much shorter treatment time is efficiency and the use of light, continuous forces. BRAVA uses sophisticated technology to determine the shortest possible path of movement for each tooth toward its final ideal position, independently, without having to wait for the rest of the teeth to catch up.

In addition, in contrast to regular braces and aligners, BRAVA does all the necessary movements of each tooth in three dimensions simultaneously, instead of in stages, using only light continuous forces.

Is BRAVA really hidden from sight?

Yes. BRAVA is bonded behind the teeth, which makes it effectively invisible. Sometimes, we may need to add elastics (rubber bands) that would require clear attachments on the outside surface of teeth, but not every patient will need elastics. If you are asked to wear elastics, please wear them all the time and change them after every meal.

Is BRAVA comfortable?

BRAVA installation is not painful, though the appliance may feel foreign to your tongue when you first get it. Most patients feel uncomfortable for a few days after installation, but gradually get used to it, though some do not feel any discomfort with the system at all.

Rest assured, no matter how much discomfort you experience during the first few days, it will go away. Moreover, since BRAVA does not require adjustments, you will not feel any discomfort or pain during your treatment.

When you start your BRAVA treatment, we will give you wax, which you can use as a cushion to relieve discomfort temporarily. To reduce the discomfort, you can consume cold foods such as ice cream or popsicles. Cold temperature softens the BRAVA and numbs the tongue. If you desire, you may also use over-the-counter pain medication such as Advil® or Tylenol® as directed to control the discomfort better during the first few days.

What should I do if something breaks?

BRAVA brackets may become loose and detach from the tooth surface. If this happens, please contact our office as soon as possible, so we can check and repair them for you. Although it is very unlikely, sometimes the BRAVA appliance itself can break. In such instances, let us know immediately so we can order a replacement as soon as possible.
